Pre Season 2025: Everything You Need to Know

Firstly i would like to offer my thanks for all the questions and interest—it’s fantastic to see such enthusiasm for the fishery! There’s been a lot of curiosity about the new setup, so I want to give you a quick rundown of what’s planned. A full, detailed post will follow once the online booking system is live and I’ve allocated mixed rod days for the coming months.

New Permit System

We’re moving to a simple, straightforward system—much like angling club or private waters. Permits will be for the whole day, from morning until dusk.

  • 1st November to 31st March: Catch and release for £25 per day.
  • 1st April to 31st October: Catch and release for £35 per day (starting at 9 am, earlier by arrangement).

If you’d like to take a rainbow trout under 5lb home, you’ll need to pay £7 per rainbow trout in advance when booking. This ensures transparency and avoids any awkwardness on the day.

It’s worth noting that the fishery will be fly fishing only, with minimal rules to keep things straightforward and enjoyable. The one main rule is that all anglers must use barbless hooks, unless you’re planning to kill a fish you’ve pre-paid for.

There’ll be a maximum of 12 rods per day to ensure plenty of space and no overcrowding. By limiting both the days and rods, we’re keeping the pressure off the fish, which means no more boom-and-bust scenarios from stocking videos leading to heavy, short-term pressure.

A Proper Day Out

We’re setting things up to make your visit more than just fishing—it’ll be a full day out. Here’s what we’re offering:

  • An easy-to-use online booking system to secure your spot.
  • Complimentary teas, coffees, a microwave, and a fridge in the cosy hut.
  • WiFi in the hut for those who like to stay connected.
  • BBQ evenings in the warmer months for a relaxed social atmosphere.
  • Dedicated experience days for youngsters to get them into fishing.

Whether you’re into fishing the bung or any other method, that’s completely fine—it’s your day, and we’re here to make it as enjoyable as possible. There’ll be rules, of course, but nothing overbearing—they’ll simply be there to keep things fair for everyone.

Balancing Mixed Rod Days and Group Bookings

Keeping the fishery running sustainably means balancing mixed rod days with group bookings. We’ve already had interest from luxury hotels wanting to organise experience days for overseas tourists, combining fishing with golf, clay shooting, and other activities.

While I considered moving to a syndicate model, I felt this approach was a better way to keep the fishery accessible to everyone while maintaining a quality experience for all.

Stocking and Fish Quality

As many of you know, fish costs have gone up. Your average rainbow trout now costs around £6 (at £2.75 per pound). We’ll be stocking at an optimum density of 70 fish per acre, with an average stock size of 3lb. You can also expect a mix of larger fish, including tigers and browns, to keep things exciting and challenging.

Dates Going Live Soon

I truly appreciate your patience and support as we get everything up and running. Dates for day rods will be going live in the coming week, so please keep an eye on our social media pages for updates. Once the booking system is ready, I’ll post a full, detailed update covering everything you need to know.

Thanks again—it means a lot, and I can’t wait to welcome you all to Wormit Fishings soon!
